Christmas Tree Farm

|||
Schmidts’ Christmas Tree Farm was started in 1970 by Joan and Ellis planting about 2 acres of Scotch Pine seedlings. Over the years we have gradually expanded until today we have about 25 acres of trees. We currently are growing mainly Fraser Fir, Concolor Fir, Canaan Fir, Douglas Fir, and Colorado Blue Spruce for Christmas trees. In addition we are testing small quantities of other true firs. In 1998, our son Erich joined us in the business. The family operation now includes Erich’s wife Allison,as well as our daughter Lisa and granddaughters Candace, Amanda, and Rielley.
In
addition to the cut Christmas trees, we also have live dug trees at Christmas
and throughout the year. Recently we have also been producing Ilex Verticillata
(winterberry) and Leyland Cypress in a small pot-in-pot operation. The
winterberry, with their brightly colored berries on bare branches, are
very attractive during the fall and winter seasons and the cut branches
have also proven interesting to our customers.
We offer the species listed above to our customers for Choose and Cut as well as precut Fraser Fir, Concolor Fir and Douglas Fir trees.
The gift shop features nutcrackers, smokers and other items from Seiffen, Germany, as well as wreaths and greens, and other gifts and decorations. We specialize in custom orders for large wreaths, grave mounds and special designs. Free Coffee and hot chocolate are available in the gift shop. Tractor and wagon rides are offered to the Choose & Cut fields. We provide saws and we shake and bale all trees.
Four
years ago we acquired two reindeer who have become family pets. Customers
participated in naming them and that resulted in the names Douglas and
Fraser. How appropriate!
They love the attention they get during the Christmas season.
